14.00 HPre-Conference Tutorial: Basics of aircraft coating
18.00 HEnd of tutorial

Basics of aircraft coating
Klaus-Bernd Fiebich, Lufthansa Technik AG, Germany
Dr. Volkmar Stenzel, Fraunhofer Institute of Manufacturing Technology and Applied Materials, Germany

Attendees who were not yet familiar with the details and the theoretical background of aircraft coating had the chance to participate in the four-hour pre-conference tutorial. The aim was to facilitate and enhance the understanding of the high-level technical presentations during the main conference.

Specifically, the tutorial addressed
  • the challenges of aircraft coating
  • theoretical basics and fundamental requirements
  • pre-treatment methods: The route to CrVI-free processes
  • paint systems - layer build-up and new processes
  • substrate materials and their surfaces
  • practical reports: What is relevant in aircraft paint shops?
  • outlook: Where are we heading to?
The IntAIRCOAT Pre-Conference Tutorial was aimed at
  • persons overseeing development, process planning and production who require a basic overview of aircraft coating
  • recently qualified engineers with little practical experience
  • technical personnel at OEM, MRO, airlines and suppliers engaged in the aircraft coating process chain, who need more information on new paint systems, processes and tools because they have been assigned new tasks
