AkzoNobel’s colour blending facility in Dongguan, China has achieved a AS9100 certification and strengthens its position as supplier for aerospace coatings in the region.
A certificate of approval has been awarded to the site by Lloyds Register to certify its compliance with AS9100:2016, an international Quality Management System (QMS) standard for the Aviation, Space and Defense industry. It particularly references the quality of Dongguan’s colour blending, stock management, marketing and sales capabilities.
Created by the International Aerospace Quality Group (IAQG), AS9100 provides an assurance to potential customers that the certified organization has an effective QMS in place and is awarded after a rigorous assessment program conducted over several months.
Jemma Lampkin, Sales Director for AkzoNobel’s Aerospace Coatings business in APAC, says the award is further evidence of the Dongguan facility’s global expertise: “It is another step on the site’s journey to being globally recognized and the number one provider of its kind to the aerospace industry in China.”
James Chen, the Site Manager at Dongguan, agrees: “We are very proud to receive this certification which required the support and professionalism of the whole of the local team. It is further proof of our focus on the reliability of our service and the quality of our people, processes and products.”
The certification supports the Dongguan facility in being able to colour blend the company’s basecoat/clearcoat systems locally in China with OEM approval for both Airbus and Boeing, as well as AMS 3095A and CAAC approvals.
The global nature of the standard allows for commonality throughout the industry, mitigating risks to AkzoNobel and its customers, and ensuring consistent quality on a worldwide basis.
The Dongguan site has been open since December 2001, with the Aerospace Coatings facility being added in early 2017.
