However, the unique challenges associated with aerospace paint materials and production systems have hindered the widespread implementation of these automated processes. This presentation will explore the specific challenges related to the robotic application of conventional aerospace paint materials, while also highlighting recent technological advancements in automated coating processes. Key topics will include innovations in surface preparation, component painting, and the use of inkjet printing for decorative liveries, showcasing the potential for overcoming existing barriers and advancing automation in aerospace painting.

The importance of composites made of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Parts (CFRP) has grown significantly over the last years in several industries, as they are combining superior mechanical properties with very low specific weight. This unique property, however, needs to be adequately protected otherwise it may be lost very rapidly, once the polymer matrix is submitted to harmful UV radiations. Not only in the well-known UV-A and UV-B ranges, but also the radiations in the visible range are detrimental for this binder chemistry. This presentation will show that state-of-the-art UV absorbers cannot sufficiently protect these CFRP and will demonstrate that only the addition of red-shifted UV absorber can lead a durable and defect-free protection of these composites.
