The paint manufacturer Mankiewicz has introduced a new paint and filler system that is specially designed for 3D-printed components. It is to be used primarily for aircraft components. The big challenge in varnishing 3D-printed components is the rough surface covered with deep furrows from the printing process. A common strategy is to simply apply a thicker layer of filler.

Especially in the aerospace industry, however, this strategy is difficult to implement. In addition to the extra weight caused by to thick layers, large filler layers often fail common heat release rate tests and do not achieve FST approval, making them unsuitable for the aerospace industry. The new filler produces a thin and smooth layer on top of the aircraft component while simultaneous filling the furrows even if they are relatively deep.

Alexit FST PrimeFill serves as a base for any further finishing. From standard topcoat to high-gloss metallic effects, there should be no limits. For the most economic finish ALEXIT FST SelfTex is recommended. Here, the texture is already included in the topcoat.
