Oerlikon Balzers has successfully completed the auditing for certification according to the standards of the European quality management standard EN 9100 for the aerospace industry. This will enable the emerging Aerospace Excellence Centre in Bingen, headquarters of the Liechtenstein company’s German subsidiary, to serve these strictly regulated markets in Europe. The certification according to EN 9100 proves that the high requirements of the aerospace industry for quality assurance and process reliability in the development, production, delivery and maintenance of products are met with the highest standard of performance. The necessary audits for this were carried out at the German site of Oerlikon Balzers in Bingen and passed without any deviations.
An aerospace cell is currently being built at the Bingen plant. There, PVD coatings such as those of the “Balnit” family can be applied specifically for aerospace applications. Aircraft components made of steel, titanium and Inconel, turbine components or even tools benefit from the customized surface solutions that minimize wear and friction or improve sliding properties. The Bingen site will thus become the German center of excellence for aerospace when certification is officially granted, probably in the fourth quarter of 2021.
