UTC Aerospace Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp., has developed a non-chromate landing gear corrosion protection primer, incorporating its patented „EcoSky“-pigment. The pigment and primer are environmentally friendly and compliant with European Union`s REACh regulations. The chromate-free primer is a pioneer product for the coating of steel parts in commercial airplanes. It is developed in concert with the United Technologies Research Center (UTRC). The functionality of the primer is currently evaluated in cooperation with Porter Airlines. Following the 16-month inspection, the landing gears are operating normally, displaying no signs of coating deterioration or corrosion. UTC Aerospace Systems continues to monitor the primer`s performance in field evaluation and assesses next steps for commercialization.
